HOW YAG LASER CUTTING MACHINE WORKS

Industrial cutters focus high amount of energy into a small, pre-defined spot. A mixture of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, CO2, and/or helium blows the vaporized material out. Nd:YAG lasers are optically pumped  through making the usage of a flashtube or the diodes. They operate in both pulsed and continuous mode. Population Inversion is obtained after which an optical switch in the neodymium ions opens. The laser then travels through the cavity. During this time, 250 MW of output power can be obtained for 10 to 25 nanoseconds. For a continuous output, the doping is lowered significantly.

GENERAL APPLICATIONS

  • Manufacturing – In manufacturing industry, they are used for etching, engraving, or marking a variety of metals and plastics, or for enhancements of metal surface like laser peening.
